History

Established by the Council of Ministers Decision dated March 14, 2009, the School of Foreign Languages (SoFL) of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (COMU) comprises two departments: the Department of Foreign Languages and the Department of Translation and Interpreting. The responsibilities of our school encompass the execution of Mandatory Foreign Language courses and professional English courses in all faculties and schools affiliated with Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, as well as the preparation and administration of Foreign Language exams conducted within the university. Our scope further extends to Foreign Language Preparatory Education, wherein advanced-level English, German, and Japanese are taught as the primary instruction languages in language education departments fully immersed in foreign languages. The program ranges from basic to intermediate levels for departments with English as the partial instructional language. Our school, accountable for the planning, organising, and implementing Preparatory Education programs, aspires to facilitate the acquisition and enhancement of oral and written communication skills alongside the essential reading and listening proficiencies required for students to effectively engage in their academic pursuits.
