*School of Foreign Languages Mandatory Preparation Program (English) Proficiency (Exemption) Examinations will be held in person on September 25-26-27, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the School of Foreign Languages and Sports Sciences Faculty buildings located at the Terzioglu Campus. Students who will study at the Biga Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences will also take the exam on September 25-26-27, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Prof. Dr. Ramazan Aydın Campus in Biga, in the Didem Yaman Amphitheatre and in the Preparation Education Building. The examination halls where students will take the exam will be posted on the building bulletin boards on the day of the exam and announced on the school's website (http://ydyo.comu.edu.tr).

*What students who will take the exam should do is stated below:

• Students of the departments with mandatory preparatory programs newly registered for the 2023-2024 Academic Year (Environmental Engineering, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Biology, Faculty of Political Sciences-International Relations, Business Administration, Economics, Biga Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences International Relations, English Language Teaching, English Language and Literature) do not need to submit a petition to take the Proficiency Exam.
• Students who fail the preparatory class for two consecutive years will be placed on passive student status by their department at the end of this academic year, breaking their ties with the university. If these students have not failed due to absenteeism during this time, they can take the Preparatory Exemption Exam held in September for 3 years. To take the exemption exam in September, these students must submit their signed petitions in person to YDYO Student Affairs between September 05-20, 2023, or scan and send them to ozgegulme17@comu.edu.tr in a clear, scanned form or by taking a clear photo (Attachment 1).
• Students who have received preparatory education in the 2022-2023 Academic Year or earlier and have failed must meet the application conditions (click here for application conditions) to be able to take the exam. To take the exam, they must submit their signed petitions in person to YDYO Student Affairs between September 05-20, 2023, or scan and send them to ozgegulme17@comu.edu.tr in a clear, scanned form or by taking a clear photo (Attachment 1).

Content and Implementation of Proficiency (Exemption) Exam

• The Proficiency (Exemption) exam will be held in 3 stages, and those who score 70 or higher in each stage (60 or higher for departments offering education in a foreign language) can proceed to the next stage of the exam. It is mandatory to score 70 or higher (60 or higher for departments) in each stage of the exam.

Exam stages and times:

September 25, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. - Stage 1 (Grammar, Vocabulary, and Reading Exam)

September 26, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. - Stage 2 (Writing Exam)

September 27, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. - Stage 3 (Listening and Speaking Exam)

Exemption from Proficiency Exams / Mandatory Preparation Program

*In accordance with Article 10 of the Regulation on Foreign Language Education and Instruction and Foreign Language Preparatory Education and Instruction of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (http://ydyo.comu.edu.tr/yuksekokulumuz/yonergeler.html), students who wish to be exempt from the preparatory program and failed in the previous academic year must submit their YDS or equivalent exam result documents or level and scored documents indicating that they received preparatory education at another university to YDYO Student Affairs with their signed petitions before the proficiency exams between September 05-20, 2023 (Attachment 2).

For the document to be considered valid, the following conditions must be met:

The document/achievement score for mandatory preparatory programs (Environmental Engineering, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Biology, Faculty of Political Sciences-International Relations, Business Administration, Economics, Biga Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences International Relations, English Language Teaching, English Language and Literature) must be 70 or higher (60 or higher for Biology).

The exam score must have been obtained within the last three years as of the application date.

The control code given by ÖSYM must be included in the YDS result documents.

The documents indicating the level of success in the preparatory class and the equivalence to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) must be included.

Note: The YÖKDİL exam is not valid for preparatory exemption.

Mandatory Preparatory Placement Exam (Placement Test)

• Students of the departments with mandatory preparatory programs (Environmental Engineering, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Biology, Faculty of Political Sciences-International Relations, Business Administration, Economics, Biga Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences International Relations, English Language Teaching, English Language and Literature) who cannot be exempt from the mandatory preparatory program must take the Placement Exam on September 28, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the School of Foreign Languages and Sports Sciences Faculty buildings located at the Terzioglu Campus. Students who will study at the Biga Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences International Relations Department must also take the Placement Exam on September 28, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Prof. Dr. Ramazan Aydın Campus in Biga, in the Didem Yaman Amphitheatre.

Note: Placement Exam will not be applied to students in the "English Language Teaching" and "English Language and Literature" programs.

Preparatory Support Program for Students Who Failed in Previous Years

• Students enrolled in their year with Mandatory Preparation Program in their department can participate in the preparatory support program for 2 semesters (1 academic year), and if they fail or are absent, they can participate in the preparatory support program in accordance with Article 7, paragraph 2 of the Regulation on Foreign Language Education and Instruction and Foreign Language Preparatory Education and Instruction of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (http://ydyo.comu.edu.tr/yuksekokulumuz/yonergeler.html), upon their request. Students who wish to participate in the preparatory support program must apply to YDYO Student Affairs with a petition in accordance with the relevant article between September 05-20, 2023 (Attachment 3). Students who do not apply with a petition within the specified periods will not be admitted to this program. Students who pass the preparatory exemption exam during the support year will continue their education in their registered program.

Part 2. Optional Preparation

• Students who want to take the Optional English Preparatory class must select the "I want to take the preparatory class" option during online registration. Students who want to take the Optional Preparatory Program will be admitted to the preparatory program within the quota.

If there are more applications than the determined quota, the students who apply will be registered in the preparatory program within the quota limits, taking into account the ÖSYM (Measuring, Selection and Placement Center) placement scores of the students for the relevant program. After the results of the Optional Preparatory Program applications are announced, especially students who will receive education in vocational schools and programs in districts are kindly requested to take this into account and make their choices for dormitories and accommodation after considering this situation.

Optional Preparatory Program Placement Exam (Placement Test)

* Placement Exam for students enrolled in the Optional Preparatory Program will be held on September 28, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the School of Foreign Languages and Sports Sciences Faculty buildings located at the Terzioglu Campus, and students enrolled in the Optional Preparatory Program at the Biga Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences will also take the Placement Exam on September 28, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the Didem Yaman Amphitheatre at the Prof. Dr. Ramazan Aydın Campus.
